Great Opportunity for Interpreters!
Do you remember the interpreters you knew when you were just beginning your career? You probably observed them, chatted with them, asked them questions, all in a very informal and unstructured way. That's a good example of what tenet #7 of the RID Code of Ethics means by "interaction with professional colleagues".

If one of the AAS students in the interpreting program at NTID doesn't have an interpreterto be that kind of informal "professional colleague", would you be willing to have him or her contact you via e-mail? You would possibly get an occasional request for help or advice from the one student who has your e-mail address.

In summary, you'd be giving your e-mail address to one student. You would promise only to reply in a timely manner to their message - even if it were only to say you could not help.

The AAS students at NTID will be offered the option of taking one e-mail address for an interpreter to be a professional colleague: 1 each from the freelance community, from the BOCES interpreters and from the DIS interpreters. If you're interested, contact Jean Rodman at JMRLDC@RIT.edu.
